By air

If you are travelling by air then the nearest airport to reach the sanctuary is the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport in Hyderabad. From the Hyderabad airport the distance of the sanctuary is about 151 km. It would approximately take you around 2 hours and 45 minutes to reach the wildlife sanctuary from the Hyderabad Airport. You can easily take the city buses from the airport in Hyderabad to reach Pocharam. Or else you can even take a car or hire a cab as well to reach the sanctuary from the Hyderabad airport easily.

By train

In case you are travelling by train then there are two nearest railway stations to reach this wildlife sanctuary, the Akkannapet Railway Station and the Kamareddy Railway Station. From the Akkannapet Railway Station this wildlife sanctuary is located at a distance of 29.2 km away. It would take you around 45 minutes to reach the location of the wildlife sanctuary from the Akkannapet railway Station. Overview of Pocharam Wildlife Sanctuary

The Pocharam Wildlife Sanctuary is one of the popular sanctuaries and a popular sightseeing location in the state of Telangana. This sanctuary is located at around 16 km away from Medak and only 5 km away from the Pocharam village. The sanctuary spreads for an area of 130 sq km and is rich in flora and fauna. Previously at one point of time this sanctuary was the hunting ground of the Nizams. In the year 1952 the sanctuary was established and it derived its name from the Pocharam Lake. The Pocharam Lake was formed after the construction of the Pocharam Dam on river Alair which is a tributary of River Manjira.

The presence of the lake and the dam makes it a beautiful site to explore. This is therefore a really nice location to relax as well as for picnics. The sanctuary is moreover popular because of its rich flora and fauna. The flora here includes Pistoia, Babul Prosposis, Hyndrilla, Vallisneria, Echornia etc. You will further find 9 small islands here in the middle of the reservoir.
