Madhavpur is a culturally significant small village in the state of Gujarat. With close proximity to Porbandar this place holds a lot of religious significance with itself as well. It is believed that Lord Krishna married Rukmini in Madhavpur. Furthermore the Madhavpur beach is one of the most well known beaches in Gujarat. While travelling from Porbandar to Somnath by car you can enjoy beautiful views of the extensive coastal route. Madhavpur Beach Fair

This is a fair organized by the Mer Tribe. This particular fair is organized every year during the Ram Navami based on popular folklore. It is believed that Lord Krishna married Rukmini Devi, the daughter of King Bhimshika at this spot. It is a five day long festival where various activities take place. Scenes from the marriage of lord Krishna and Rukmini Devi are re-created here by artists during the festival. A chariot is decorated and a form of Lord Krishna is placed on top of it. Furthermore the chariot encircles the whole area as a part of a procession. It is a beautiful sight to witness. Gir National Park

This national park is famous because it is the only home for the Asiatic Lions. It is an ideal spot for spotting a variety of wildlife. Furthermore around 2375 faunal species can be found here in this National Park. Along with that there are almost 300 species of birds and over 2000 species of insects as well. Some of the popular animals seen here are Chausingha, Leopard, Sambar Deer, Spotted Deer, Chinkara, Hyena etc.

Shree Somnath Jyotirlinga Temple

It is believed that there are a total of 12 Jyotirlinga Temples and Somnath Temple is the first of those temples where a fiery column of light appeared. Also the site of the temple is one of the popular sites of pilgrimage for being a Triveni Sangam where three rivers Saraswati, Kapila and Hiran meet. It is one of the most important pilgrimage sites that you can visit nearby.

Osho Ashram

Located 500 metres away from the main Bazaar in Madhavpur the Osho Anand Ashram Madhavpur is home for many Sadhakas who regularly meditate here. Furthermore the location of this ashram is in the interior of Gujarat but it is still a great place for practicing meditation. One can also indulge in other activities and can do free work at the Ashram. This ashram is one of the largest Osho Ashrams.

Porbandar Bird Sanctuary

This is a small bird sanctuary spread over only an area of 1 sq km but nevertheless this place is a hub for exotic migratory birds. It can be a paradise for birdwatchers and you can spot a variety of bird species here like Spoonbill, Flamingos, Heron, Whistling Teals, Grebes, Ducks, Egrets, Pelicans, Avocet, Geese and more. More than 150 bird species can be spotted here.

Madhav Rai Ji Haveli Temple

In the close proximity with the Madhavpur Beach this is a temple dedicated to Lord Krishna. It is believed that Lord Krishna married Rukmini Devi here and in the memory of that auspicious moment the original Madhavraiji Temple was built around 12th to 13th century. Later however the temple was destroyed by attacks of Muslims. At present only the ruins of the temple are there. This temple is known as the old M adhavarai Temple. Furthermore in 1840 a new temple which is the present Madhavarai temple was built by Sri Rupani Ba who was the Rajmata of Porbandar. The original idol of Madhavarai is placed in the new temple located near the ruins of old Madhavrai temple.

Krishna Rukmini Temple

Located only 2 km away from the main Dwarka Temple, the Krishna Rukmini Temple is a dedicated temple of Rukmini Devi, the beloved wife of Lord Shri Krishna. It is believed that the temple dates back to 12th century and has been there for the last 2500 years.  It is one of the most important temples and a popular sightseeing spot here.

Madhavpur Turtle Hatchery

This is a main centre of the conservation of turtles that has been going on for the past two decades. In this Turtle Hatchery turtles are bred as well as hatched for their preservation. This Turtle hatchery is located on the Porbandar Veraval Highway. Furthermore it is one of the popular tourist spots that you can visit here and it would be a delight to witness the turtles.

Porbandar Beach

Commonly known as the Chowpatty beach, this is another beautiful beach located only at an hours’ distance from the beach of Madhavpur.
